Warroad Community Childcare Center Capital Campaign
Foundation for the Work
In 2021, a diverse group of concerned stakeholders, including representatives of the Warroad Community, Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, Northwest Minnesota
Foundation, the City of Warroad, Warroad Public School District, and local employers, began meeting to take a critical look at the area childcare shortage. The resulting analysis indicated a shortage of 195
childcare seats for children from birth through five years of age in the
Warroad area.
Stakeholders considered all options and determined that constructing a childcare center in Warroad would be the best way to fill this critical need. Warroad Senior Living Center donated land adjacent to their
present facility. A financial feasibility study was conducted, and architectural plans were drawn up. Articles of incorporation were filed for Warroad Community Childcare Center in 2022, and the new
nonprofit organization was awarded 501c3 status in 2023.
WCCC Campaign
The plan calls for raising $5 million over the next two years. This amount will cover the entire cost of construction, exterior landscaping, playground, classroom furnishings, and operating capital/reserves needed to sustain Warroad Community Childcare Center until it reaches peak enrollment.
I considered it a privilege to assist the Warroad Community Childcare Center Fundraising Committee with coordination of this important campaign.

The Warroad Community Childcare Center (WCCC) was just forming as a non-profit entity when we retained Michelle Landsverk to help us with our capital campaign fundraising efforts. Michelle helped us develop a trained team of community volunteers with the vision, training materials, skills and comprehensive plan needed to meet our $5m campaign goal. Not only did Michelle’s services help WCCC financially, but her general business and strategic skills aided WCCC in standing up our new entity administratively and operationally too. Michelle led and partnered very effectively with WCCC, and in the end delivered beyond expectations.
